The Technical Writer will be responsible for creating several different types of documents in a fast-paced development environment.  The technical writer must be able to manage their time effectively, while able to handle several projects at the same time.

Responsibilities:

·  Research and understand the operating environment for client-based applications and infrastructure systems

·   Assist in certification and accreditation activities for all Information Systems

·   Create user manuals and Online Help as required

·   Create Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation for all business operations

·   Work with the Program Managers and software developers to ensure that the documentation deliverables are developed according to their requirements

·   Create other documents related to business operations as required (memorandums, notices, policy statements, etc.)

·   Create documentation templates as needed

 Required Experience/Skills:

·   Familiarity with software application development environments

·   Education Requirements:  Associates Degree (4-year degree preferred) or 4 years relevant work experience as a Technical Writer

·   2+ years of technical writing experience with software or online systems Familiarity with Information Security practices and procedures

·   Ability to translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand and straight-forward user documentation

·   Experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

·   Strong familiarity with other standard documentation tools: Visio, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe FrameMaker, RoboHelp

·   Familiarity with relational databases (Microsoft SQL preferred)

·   Attention to detail ·   Ability to work both in a team and independently

·   Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance-  Occasional travel may be required (less than 10% of work time)

Job Description Duties

LSI Corporation is looking for a writer based in Austin, Texas with significant experience in software documentation.
This position requires a self-directed writer who effectively interacts with a large group of software developers to prepare documents in parallel with development, to plan and conduct document reviews and meet a specific release date, to work with editors to meet corporate style and quality guidelines, and to ensure that information is technically accurate.
In addition to specific documentation assignments, a senior writer at LSI is expected to participate in and assume some leadership role for Technical Publications Department special projects

Requirements

The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in technical communication, computer science, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
A strong software background is required with over 5 years software documentation experience in a high tech environment.
Knowledge of C programming is required.
Knowledge of FrameMaker is required.

Preferences

The ideal candidate will have experience documenting GUIs, runtime environments, device drivers and API libraries, programming languages, compilers, and debuggers.

Successful candidates will have a strong desire to learn new concepts and the latest technologies in network processors and development environments, such a s Eclipse.

Desired experience includes documenting command line interfaces for UNIX, LINUX, RTOS (such as VxWorks), and scripting languages such as TCL. Experience with DITA/structured authoring and HTML is a plus.
